FIA 1500 & 2500 PRESS PIT BUILDING
Futaba of Indiana
Takenaka (USA) Corporation
Yasushi Arai (630) 250-3400
Job consisted of a 145,000 s.f. manufacturing warehouse complete with foundations, perimeter walls, and dock pits. Also included were three deep pits that averaged 16 feet deep and over 300 l.f. of cast-in-place conveyor tunnel to support press machines for the auto industry. A sheet piling and dewatering system was installed to dewater the pits during construction as the project was constructed in sandy soils with a water table at 7 feet below finished floor level. One year after completion of the original press building, Takenaka contacted Superior Concrete to install an additional 2,500 ton press pit. This pit was placed between two working presses. Again a sheet pile and dewatering system was installed to allow excavation to 22 feet below the existing floor. The new pit was tied into the existing tunnels seamlessly without disturbing FIA’s production. |
